The New Orleans Saints have traded running back Darren Sproles to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth round pick.

Sproles was due to make about $3.5 million this season, all that money will be freed up towards the salary cap.  The Saints continue to make moves to find room underneath the salary cap.

Sproles set an NFL record with the Saints in 2011 with 2,696 all-purpose yards, but his production has fallen in each of the last two seasons.  He totaled 1,577 all-purpose yards in 2012 and 1,273 in 2013.

For the Eagles, they'll get another versatile weapon to feature in Chip Kelly's offense along side running back LeSean McCoy who was the NFL's leading rusher last season.  The Eagles hadn't had a player lead the league in rushing since 1949 previous to last season.

Darren Sproles Wife Cusses the Saints

Darren Sproles' wife was not happy with how the Saints dealt with the trading of her husband.  The Saints had stated they would likely release Darren Sproles.  Clearly things changed when the Saints received interest in trading for Sproles.  Michel Sproles, Darren's wife, took to Instagram to vent her frustrations.

Mrs. Sproles later said in a follow-up, “I purposely posted this to see all the factions and I’m not at all surprised, and for those that responded ignorantly [they] completely fell for it... I [did] not attack Who Dat Nation, I specifically said I was referring to the front office.”
