February 5 was national signing day, and several high-ranked players have inked their letters of intent in purple and gold.

Top ranked tailback Leonard Fournette and five-star wide receiver Malachi Dupre have signed to LSU. Travonte Valentine and Trey Lealaimatafao, two of the nation's top defensive line recruits, have also committed to the Bayou Bengals. And quarterback Brandon Harris of Parkway High School in Bossier City is also enrolled.

In total, LSU football added 22 signees for 2014.

There were also several local athletes who signed on to play D1 football, including Woodlawn defensive back Donovan Wilson, who decommitted from Utah and signed with Texas A&M today.

Evangel defensive back Santos Ramirez will head to Arkansas to reunite with teammate and early enrollee Jared Cornelius. Airline defensive tackle OJ Smith will sign with Alabama after a visit from Nick Saban on Tuesday. Haughton running back Jared Craft will play at Louisiana Tech. North Desoto athlete Damien Boone will ink with Northwestern State. Haynesville’s Jerrell Jackson will take his talents all the way to the University of Hawaii.

In total, 11 area athletes have signed with Division 1 football programs. Nationally, Alabama is ranked as having the no. 1 recruiting class. LSU is ranked as high as no. 2 by 247sports.com.
