Ten former LSU baseball players have been assigned to minor league teams as they begin their pro careers. A school-record nine Tigers were selected in the MLB draft. Eight of them have already started their pro careers including Byrd grad Chris Cotton, Mason Katz and Raph Rhymes.

Pitcher Brett Bonvillian was not drafted but signed a free agent deal with the Kansas City Royals.

Shreveport native Chris Cotton, who was drafted by the Houston Astros, is playing for the Tri-City Valley Cats in the Class A New York-Penn League. He has one start under his belt, and gave up no runs or hits in two innings pitched.

Third baseman Christian Ibarra was drafted, but he plans to return to LSU for his senior season.
