He was half of the recording duo Johnny & Jack, as well as the husband of Kitty Wells. Johnny Wright passed away early Tuesday morning at his home in Madison, Tenn. He was 97.
Wright was known for songs, such as "Ashes of Love," "I Get So Lonely," "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight" and "Poison Love."
Those recordings were hits in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Wright's solo career started with a song about Vietnam in 1967 that topped the charts at number 1. That song, "Hello Vietnam," was later featured in the movie "Full Metal Jacket."
Married to Hall of Famer Kitty Wells for 74 years, Wright is the one who came up with her stage name. Their last performance together was in 2000.
Wells was known as the "Queen of Country Music." Her real name was Ellen Muriel Deason. They only charted one record together in 1968 - "We'll Stick Together."
Survivors include Wells, three children, two daughters and a son. Funeral arrangements are pending.
