For a good part of yesterday,  Blackberry cell phones experienced an outage that upset many customers.   In fact,  it was a few hours before customers could access the internet and even get e-mail.

The outages were widespread,  all over the world,  including North America.  When I FINALLY got my e-mail I had at least 18 messages that had piled up over the past few days.

It's frustrating when you depend on your phone for business e-mails and staying in touch with your children,  husband,  or friends.   My daughter complained all day that she had no service.  It took me longer to notice the outage,  because I was in the car driving so much yesterday,  from Shreveport to Carthage,  to Longview,  back to Carthage.

The outage reportedly occurred because the Canadian company that makes the phones -  Research In Motion - had infrastructure issues with a crucial link in  Europe, and the backup didn't work either.

They say it has been repaired,  but there still may be a back log of e-mails and messages  and releasing them all may continue plaguing customers today.

The timing of the outages comes on the heels of  Apple's release of its new I-Phone.   The late Steve Job's  company continues to do well in his absence.
