Santa Claus, old Saint Nick himself, made his arrival today to greet all the kids and kick off our annual Topp's Western World "Operation Santa Claus!"

Townsquare Media which consists of News Radio 710 KEEL, 1130 The Tiger, 96.5 KVKI, Kiss Country 937, The Rock Station 99X and K945, along with the Shreveport Police and Fire Departments and the Bossier Sheriff's Office are taking to the streets once again, asking for a little help for local children here at Christmas.

Think maybe you might have just a little left over in the "jogging tank" and you'd like to help put a smile on hundreds of local kids' faces?  We've got just the way you can do it with the first ever "Operation Santa Claus 5K!"

Operation Santa Claus kicked off in Shreveport-Bossier this week with one goal: to help underprivileged area children have a Christmas. Several local drop-off locations for Operation Santa Claus have been set up for residents who'd like to donate toys to the non-profit group.

Santa Claus arrived in Shreveport-Bossier Monday, Dec. 2 to bring some early holiday cheer to the children of Turner Elementary Middle School and launch this year's Operation Santa Claus.

For as long as I can remember, we've celebrated Christmas in all its grandeur, with baby Jesus, the Bible Christmas story, children's Christmas programs at church, choir cantatas and Santa's big gifts.

KWKH  thanks everyone who donated toys or money to buy toys for Operation Santa Claus.  This year's task of providing new toys to local less fortunate children in Shreveport-Bossier was a bit daunting on the outset as we had 975 children for whom to provide.

Thank you for your help with Operation Santa Claus again this year. Because of you, nearly 1,000 little faces will have big smiles on Christmas! Take a moment and look at the photos of our 27th year of Operation Santa Claus.

Through the airways of Townsquare Media and the Internet, volunteers with Operation Santa Claus work to find sponsors who will donate toys or money to help fill the children’s Christmas wishes.

I'm happy and humbled at the same time to have experienced the annual Barney Cannon Smile Run for the first time this year as the morning show host at KWKH, the show Barney hosted for some 11 years.
