Hugh Jackman isn’t the only one saying goodbye to the X-Men. Sir Patrick Stewart has decided that Logan will be his last appearance as Professor Charles Xavier as well, after appearing as the character in six other X-Men movies.

Logan works on many levels, mostly as a swan song for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. We’ve known for ages that this would be his last run playing the character, and Logan gives him an appropriately melancholy, moving send-off. But, had Marvel and 20th Century Fox been able to reach some kind of deal before Jackman made the decision not to sign on for another movie after this one, his Wolverine might have stuck around.

When you go see Logan on March 3, you might want to keep your butt firmly planted in the theater seat after the credits roll, bub. In what is hardly surprising news at all, there is post-credits scene attached to Wolverine’s latest (and last) outing, and though we don’t know what it is just yet, it probably won’t be long before someone lets the cat out of the bag. Until then, feel free to speculate away.

Early on, you might’ve expected Hugh Jackman’s final bow as Wolverine to go out with a bang, like a giant farewell party where all his old and new friends are there to wave him off into the sunset. But that wouldn’t be quite fitting for a loner like Logan (and it sounds more like an X-Men movie), whose upcoming sequel really emphasizes the “solo” in solo outing — so don’t go in expecting to see a bunch of cameos from other mutants in the X-universe.

Because superhero movies are based on comics that already exist, most of the time fans can predict roughly what a movie is going to be about with only the smallest bits of information. Logan has been particularly close-lipped about the official plot, but that hasn’t stopped us from figuring out the bare bones of it simply based on who’s involved. We know it’ll involve Caliban, because he’s, well, in it, and we also know that we’re diving into the X-23 storyline, because she’s in it too. A new, wordier summary than the one Hugh Jackman graced us with a few weeks ago has hit the Internet, and it basically confirms everything we’ve figured out.

It’s been rumored for some time that Hugh Jackman’s big Wolverine farewell might very well receive an R-rating, and the massive success of Deadpool only strengthened that possibility. Up until now, however, it was unclear if Logan would actually hit theaters with an R — not for lack of trying, as both Jackman and director James Mangold have expressed an interest in delivering the red-band goods. And it looks like they’ve done just that.

Since the earliest news that James Mangold would direct a spinoff about Wolverine surfaced, anticipation has been high. But even as the film gained a cast, a title, a release date, and a trailer, the many fans impatiently awaiting Logan didn’t know what the film was about, not really anyway. It was understood from the jump that Mangold had drawn influence from Mark Millar’s fan-favorite run of Wolverine comics titled “Old Man Logan” for the film. Even then, however, public knowledge of its premise was spotty at best beyond “Hugh Jackman, long in the tooth, prowls around a post-apocalyptic future.”

When the hullabaloo about Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool possibly having a cameo in the next Wolverine movie erupted last week, everyone involved in Logan was quick to put those rumors to rest. But that might not mean we’ll never see the two X-Men in a movie together. After everything had died down, Reynolds had a chance to reflect and mentioned that he would be totally down to team up with the Canadian superhero, but there’s one big obstacle to get past: for all intents and purposes, Logan will be Hugh Jackman’s last run as Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds’ wish for a proper Deadpool and Wolverine crossover movie may never come true, but the actor has apparently achieved something pretty close with a small cameo in Logan. According to a new report, the actor recently filmed a scene for Hugh Jackman’s final bow as Wolverine, though it’s unclear if we’ll actually see the two characters share the screen when Logan hits theaters next spring.

It’s tougher than it seems for a superhero movie to get an R rating. These days, most of them fall somewhere around the PG-13 spectrum, which allows teen audiences easy access to the comic book movies usually geared toward them, as well as families to bring the smaller kids whose favorite toy is their oversize talking Hulk hands. But Logan is a superhero movie of a different sort, so it needs a rating that puts it in a different category from the other X-Men movies. To achieve that R rating, probably through violence and language, the star Hugh Jackman apparently took a pay cut so that the film could get there.
