Old Law: Too Many of These “Exciting” Things are Forbidden
Here in Texas, we have some pretty weird laws. Were you aware that it is illegal to milk another man's cow? If you get caught touching another man's utters then you could find yourself behind bars. That's not even the oddest law in Texas. For example, did you know that there is a law limiting the number of sex toys you can own.
Texas Penal Code Title 9, Chapter 43 says that dildos and other similar items, which are referred to as obscene devices, can only be sold as novelty items. If you have to many it is possible that you could end up in jail. It is unlikely that the law would be enforced today, but that hasn't stopped the occurrence of a few awkward situations.
In 2004, Joanne Webb, a Dallas-area woman, found herself in trouble after hosting a Passion Party. If you don't know what a passion party is just imagine a Tupperware party, but instead of having items that you put food into you have items that you put into you. She faced charges under the state’s obscenity laws, which ban demonstrating the “intended use” of adult toys. Though the charges were dropped, it highlighted just how bizarre some of these rules are.
Somethin' Sexy, a lingerie shop in Lubbock, was raided after the police were told they were selling adult toys. The charges weren't enforced and in 2008 the law basically made it A few years later, Lubbock’s lingerie shop, Somethin’ Sexy, was raided after complaints about selling adult toys. Again, the charges didn’t stick. By 2008 the offense was decriminalized even though it remains on the books.
There is even a law that requires all strip club employees from the cooks to the dancers to carry their SOB permit on them at all times. I don't even want to know where the dancers keep theirs when they are in their work uniform.
