Woman Poses as Dollar General Manager, Scams Louisiana Store Out of Nearly $1,000
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is seeking help to identify a woman who allegedly posed as a Dollar General manager and scammed a cashier into handing over nearly $1,000 in Hammond. The incident occurred earlier this month (Dec. 3) at the Dollar General located on Wardline Road.
According to deputies, the suspect entered the store, picked up a few small items, and approached the cashier with an ATM-style card. When the cashier expressed uncertainty about processing the payment, the woman claimed to be a manager from another Dollar General location. Offering to "teach" the cashier how to handle such transactions, she guided the employee through two transactions. Instead of charging her card, the transactions withdrew money from the store's account, totaling almost $1,000.
The Sheriff’s Office revealed this scam isn’t an isolated incident. Investigators determined the same woman used this tactic successfully at five additional Dollar General stores in the area, hitting each location twice. These scams have collectively resulted in the theft of thousands of dollars.
The Sheriff’s Office released a still image of the suspect captured on surveillance footage and urged anyone with information about her identity or whereabouts to come forward.
“Organized retail crime is a significant issue, and we are committed to finding those responsible,” said Sheriff Gerald Sticker.
