Major Safety Concerns Prompt Amazon Recall of 500,000 Items

(KMDL-FM) When it comes to numbers, most of us think one million is a lot. Therefore, half of that, or $ 500,000, would likely be considered a substantial amount. Well, 500,000 items, half a million, have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. All of the products were available in Louisiana via online retailers such as Amazon. 

What makes this an even bigger concern is the fact that the products have been sold online, in many cases, for the past two years, and we are just now getting the news that they might not be as safe as advertised. Just to be clear, this 500,000 number isn't just one product; there are five different products the CPSB wants you to be aware of.

Another concerning issue with a recall of this scope and over this long a period of time is the kind of products that are being recalled. Two of the five are products designed for use around babies, toddlers, and infants.

The product violates mandatory standards for toys containing button batteries, which can become a huge issue if swallowed by a child. The fact that the battery compartment appears to be easily accessible is also a concern.

The recall of this next item could cause you to lose your cool, literally. That's because the item in question is a fan. It's the IcyBreeze Portable Misting fan, and the issue with the product is not necessarily in its use. The problem appears to manifest during charging. The complaint with these items is that they can overheat. That means a fire hazard or a burn hazard.
