Major Safety Concerns Prompt Amazon Recall of 500,000 Items
(KMDL-FM) When it comes to numbers, most of us think one million is a lot. Therefore, half of that, or $ 500,000, would likely be considered a substantial amount. Well, 500,000 items, half a million, have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. All of the products were available in Louisiana via online retailers such as Amazon.
What makes this an even bigger concern is the fact that the products have been sold online, in many cases, for the past two years, and we are just now getting the news that they might not be as safe as advertised. Just to be clear, this 500,000 number isn't just one product; there are five different products the CPSB wants you to be aware of.

Another concerning issue with a recall of this scope and over this long a period of time is the kind of products that are being recalled. Two of the five are products designed for use around babies, toddlers, and infants.
Children's and Infants' Toys Recalled - Which Ones, What to Know
Another product is actually a safety device that is supposed to protect children who use it. Unfortunately, that product did not pass muster, and if you have it in your home or you are allowing your child to use it, you need to stop.
The final items are a little more tech-related. One of the recalled items is an object that has recently come under scrutiny by the Transportation Security Administration. The other product, designed to keep you cool, could actually catch fire and cause personal injury or property damage.

In most cases, a visit to the product's website can connect you with a customer service representative who can explain what your options are as far as a refund or replacement product is concerned. And if you've experienced an issue with any of the recalled products, you can visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission website to voice a concern or gather more information on one of the recalled items.
Recent Product Recalls By the Consumer Product Safety Commission
Let's cover the children's items that have been recalled by CPSC. Remember, these items were not sold exclusively on Amazon, but were sold on multiple online retail sites. The first item parents and grandparents will want to review is these baby loungers.
There are several concerns with these loungers, and the fact that your child or grandchild could suffer an injury or worse is reason enough to make sure that this item is not something you are using around your children.
The next recalled item, again a product designed for children, is actually supposed to help keep kids safe. But this multi-purpose helmet has been shown to fail when put under duress. In other words, it's not going to keep your kid safe. Here is that item.
The next item we especially want parents and caregivers of children who are still in cribs to be aware of is the Crib Mobile from Youbeien. The product violates mandatory standards for toys containing button batteries, which can become a huge issue if swallowed by a child. The fact that the battery compartment appears to be easily accessible is also a concern.
The recall of this next item could cause you to lose your cool, literally. That's because the item in question is a fan. It's the IcyBreeze Portable Misting fan, and the issue with the product is not necessarily in its use. The problem appears to manifest during charging. There have been reports of the product overheating and catching fire while charging. Here is more about that recalled item.
And finally, the product that has been the topic of discussion while standing in line waiting for security at the airport is this one.
The complaint with these items is that they can overheat. That means a fire hazard or a burn hazard.
What Should You Do If You Have Purchased a Recalled Item?
As is the case with all of these items, the recall notices mean nothing if you don't act on them. If you click on the products above, you will find refund information and replacement information if available.
The bottom line is that you deserve safe products, especially if you're going to spend your hard-earned money on them. You also deserve to know that products designed for your children will not harm them.
If you follow the Consumer Product Safety Commission on X (formerly Twitter), you will get instant information on any new recalls or changes in existing recalls as they are announced.
