Louisiana is home to some great cities and towns. Some are known for food, like Scott and Breaux Bridge for boudin and crawfish respectively. Others are known for landmarks, you know like you can't think about Youngsville, Louisiana without thinking about roundabouts. There are frogs in Rayne, rice in Crowley, and Opelousas they can tell you a thing or two about zydeco music and yams.

And while all of those communities have so much to be proud of only one city in Louisiana was honored by a national magazine as one of the Top 50 Places that are Best for Families.  The distinction was offered by Fortune Well, a subsidiary of Fortune Magazine. 

The magazine's study wanted to know which communities across America were best suited for families. Now, this isn't just young couples starting out wanting to raise a family. The study also looked a families with aging parents. So there were concerns about health care, transportation, education, and a lot of other factors that went into the final outcome.

The study looked at over 2,000 different communities across America and analyzed the data concerning livability, financial health, resources for aging adults, education, and wellness. The cities that were chosen were found to have the most sustainable lifestyle for their youngest and oldest citizens and cities that found creative ways to improve overall well-being among residents.

The city that earned the top honor in the Fortune Well study was Silver Springs Mayland.  The remainder of the top 5 was Upper Merion, Pennsylvania, Chantilly Virginia, Ann Arbor Michigan, and Mason Ohio.

There was a Lafayette listed at number seven in the study but that was Lafayette, Colorado. However, the Lafayette that most of us are familiar with did make the survey. In fact, Lafayette was the only community in Louisiana that was honored with this distinction.

The study ranked Lafayette here in Louisiana as the 50th choice of the Top 50 Best Places for Families. The study pointed to Lafayette's affordable cost of living, its strong healthcare system, and of course the culture that can't be found anywhere else in the world.

The review of Lafayette suggested that living in Lafayette is like being on a constant culinary tour. The study also referenced our incredible music scene and of course, the unmatched ability to celebrate that Lafayette and Acadiana are known for.

The study also suggested Lafayette was a great place for families to immerse themselves in history at Acadiana Village or Vermilionville. Or, take a swamp tour on nearby Lake Martin. And don't forget the nightlife that Louisiana, not just Lafayette is famous for.
