Louisiana’s National Hunting & Fishing Day Returns Sept. 27
BATON ROUGE, La. (KMDL-FM) - Louisiana's National Hunting and Fishing Day is taking place this Saturday, September 27, 2025, at various spots throughout the state.
This statewide, family-friendly celebration is hosted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and features free events with activities like archery, fishing, and shooting demonstrations to help introduce new audiences to the outdoors.

When and Where to Celebrate Hunting & Fishing Day
Waddill Wildlife Refuge in Baton Rouge, Woodworth Shooting Range in Woodworth, the Tom Merrill Recreation Area at Bodcau Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Haughton, and Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Monroe will host this year’s event. It's sponsored by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation.
Free Activities for Families and Outdoor Enthusiasts
While each location's events will vary, all include exhibits on LDWF's research and conservation efforts, shooting and fishing demonstrations, and exhibits from local chapters of Ducks Unlimited, the Safari Club, and the Coastal Conservation Association, as well as local businesses.
A Louisiana Tradition Since 1982
NHFD has been a tradition nationally since first being established in the early 1970s. Since then, every fourth Saturday in September is dedicated to Louisiana's popular outdoor pastimes.
LDWF first implemented the NHFD event in 1982 at the Monroe District Office and added other locations in the following years.
