Poll Reveals Louisiana’s ‘Most Charming Christmas Town’
(KMDL-FM) When it comes to Christmas, I don't think anyone has a better handle on the holiday than the folks who make the Hallmark Holiday Movies do. Every year, they seem to find a new way to tell a tale as old as time in a different way that brings out our best for the season. Part of the success of those Hallmark Movies is the towns in which they are set, and one Louisiana town seems better suited than most as the state's "Most Charming Christmas Town".
Now, the folks who conducted the poll, that would be the folks at Exoticca, a travel-themed website, asked some 3,000 of their guests and visitors to help them find the ideal setting for a Hallmark Holiday Film.

Of course, many cities in Louisiana have already played host to a Hallmark or Lifetime Holiday film in the past. You might recall Christmas on the Bayou was filmed around Lafayette and St. Martinville, Christmas Cupid's Arrow was filmed in Lafayette, and Hometown Christmas was filmed at locations in Lafayette and Youngsville.
Baton Rouge was the site of filming for My Southern Family Christmas. That film featured sites in the city of Baton Rouge as well as Cajun Village in Sorrento. Ponchatula hosted the filming of a Christmas Wish, that film also featured a Louisiana producer calling the shots.
And you might remember a few years back when Downtown New Iberia became a holiday wonderland during the heat of summer and early fall when Christmas in Louisiana was filming. I believe that the film not only included sites of the city but scenes from the Sugarcane and Christmas Festivals too.
But as cool as those towns are and as profitable and critically acclaimed as those films were, the folks who participated in the Exoticca poll chose the only town that anyone can seem to think of in Louisiana at Christmas time, yes, they chose Natchitoches.

I guess if I were going to film a holiday movie in Louisiana, that would make for a nice backdrop. A lot of lights, a lot of food, a river parade, and meat pies. Talk about a recipe for romance, meat pies under the mistletoe? Hey, wait, that's a great name for the movie, isn't it?
Picture it, Jana Kramer and Kellie Pickler star as two estranged sisters who come back to Natchitoches to run their ailing father's meatpie business in time for the annual Christmas festival. Neither woman is looking for love, but no one can stop the Christmas Magic of Meat Pies Under the Mistletoe.
It would give a whole new meaning to the term "hot lips". Okay, enough of my Tomfoolery, here, go remember stuff.
