First of all, send me to a family that spends $700 on each child… I’ll just temporarily be a part of their family for the holiday, don’t mind me. This may seem shockingly high to some of you, but according to a study from couponbirds.com, this is how much is supposedly spent on each child this Christmas in the Lone Star State.

American Averages

The study conducted in November of this year shows that, on average, Americans are expected to spend $461 per child on Christmas. Not only that, but 49% of all parents are expected to go into debt in order to cover the expenses of Christmas this year… I mean, I get that the holidays are a special time for family and presents, but is it worth going into debt?

On top of this, nearly a quarter of all parents in America are paying for family vacation trips rather than physical gifts.

Christmas Spending by State

Texas is the second highest spender among the 50 states when it comes to Christmas expenditures. Texan parents are expected to spend an average of $659 per child.

Do you know what’s weird? New Jersey, of all states, is the number one highest spender for children during Christmas at a whopping $712 each.

Which states are at the bottom? Well, West Virginia comes in at $255, but South Dakota (pfft, I knew that…) takes the cake as the least amount spent per child on Christmas at $247.
