The Most Haunted WalMart In America is in Texas And It Has A Chilling History

Galveston is one of the top tourist destinations in Texas. If you've ever been to Galveston, you know there is a lot to do and see. And like many other Texas cities, there is a lot of history to explore as well.

And there is one spot in Galveston that has become a tourist destination that may surprise you. It's the Galveston Seawall Walmart. And people are flocking to the Walmart not to just see what is in stock, but because of the haunted history of the location.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Walmart in Galveston is known as the Most Haunted Walmart in America. And since its opening in 1994, people have flocked to the location to see for themselves just how haunted the grounds are.

Why Is The Walmart In Galveston Haunted?

Just over a 124 years ago on September 8, 1900 a deadly and devastating Hurricane hit Galveston. The St. Mary's Orphanage sat close to where the current Walmart is now located. During the Hurricane, 10 nuns and up to 90 children were killed. During the storm the nuns had used a rope to tie the children and the nuns together. The Chronicle reports that just three boys survived.

Many of the haunted encounters seem to take place in the toy area of the building. You can actually watch some videos on YouTube where people have filmed toys going off for no reason. Some visitors have even heard the voices of children when they didn't see any. The Houston Chronicle also once reported on a story about FEMA workers hearing the voices of children.

Another widespread story concerns the time Walmart allowed FEMA workers inside the heavily damaged store to fetch supplies after Hurricane Ike in 2008. “When they entered, they heard children laughing and coughing,” said Maca, who devoted a chapter of her 2016 book “Ghosts of Galveston” to the haunted Walmart.

“They thought that some children had snuck into the building, so they did a full search,” she added, “and even though they didn't find any children, they found children's footsteps in the muck on the floor even though there was no other entrance at the time.”

Some of the other supernatural reports coming from the Walmart in Galveston are reports of balls being knocked out of ball cages. Even employees who have heard an invisible ball being bounced. There have also been reports of people hearing the voice of a female child calling for her mother.
