(Tyler, TX) We've been hearing for years about the mass movement to Texas from places like California and it seems like that trend is going to continue in 2025.

In 2024, several Texas cities experienced significant population growth, attracting newcomers from across the United States. Of course, bit metros like Houston, Austin and Dallas each saw population increases.

But there's one East Texas city that saw a growth spurt much to the surprise of residents.

Rental company U-Haul recently released their study of Growth Metros and Cities of 2024. The U-Haul Growth Index is compiled from well over 2.5 million one-way truck, trailer and U-Box portable moving container transactions that occur annually in the U.S. and Canada.

Basically, they used the number of rentals headed to a city to compile their list of cities that are growing quickly. This is the first year that metros have been part of the do-it-yourself moving company’s annual growth reports and rankings.

Texas had five metros make the cut.

First up on the list at #1 is the DFW Metroplex. According to Sean Fullerton, U-Haul Company of South Central Dallas president, “We are seeing unprecedented growth in the Dallas metro area, both within the city and also suburbs like McKinney, Plano and Addison.

“The cost of living is also extremely reasonable throughout the whole metro. Job growth has led to wages and earnings going up, and tax breaks have led to a lot of people moving to the area."

Landing at #5 is Austin, Houston at #9 and Brownsville & McAllen, TX coming in at #21.

Surprisingly, Tyler, TX made the Top 25.

You read that right. The Rose City landed at #22 on the list, showcasing that folks are falling in love with Tyler. That probably explains why several new businesses like Dave & Buster's, Amazon, Shaq's Big Chicken, Crypto.com and other businesses are making their way here in the coming years.

The trend of relocation to Texas cities is expected to continue, driven by the state's economic opportunities, affordable living, and cultural amenities. What a great time to say "I'm from Tyler, Texas!"
