UPDATE: Shreveport Quarterback Sets National Football Record in Loss
UPDATE: According to Roy Lang, Peyton Houston just didn't set the state passing record Thursday night. He set the all time National High School Passing.
According to Lang, after reviewing the tape and recalculating the stats, Houston didn't have 767 passing yards. No, he had 817 passing yards. Which is ridiculous. This shatters the previous national record of 787 yards.
If you haven't been keeping up with Louisiana High School football, you've been missing out. Seriously. If you look at College Football, the NFL, the CFL...any level really, it's FULL of players from the Bayou State. It's kind of incredible to see, really. And all those players got their start playing high school football at any number of the incredible programs that are set up around the state.
I say all that to say this: Last night, Shreveport was treated to an epic and record breaking game. Evangel & Captain Shreve squared off in an epic battle. Evangel eventually lost the game to Shreve 77 to 76 in an overtime heartbreaker. Yes, that's not a typo. The game was that high scoring. And the individual performances were equally epic.
Evangel Quarterback Re-Writes State Record Books
I know Captain Shreve won and that's probably more important than setting records. But, they set some records in their own right. Shreve QB Brodie Savage set a school record last night. But despite his own incredible evening on the grid iron, Evangel's QB is getting all the headlines.
And, despite the loss, it's well earned. Peyton Houston didn't just set school records, he didn't just set state records, he made a run at some nation records too. The 4 star prospect finished with 767 yards which is a state record and comes in 2nd to Matt Miller's 787 yards in 2015 in Pennsylvania. But that's not all! He had 49 completions which is tied for 5th all time nationally. He had 10 total touchdowns, which is tied for 12th all time nationally.
The kid was nothing short of incredible. As noted in the tweet above, the film is being rewatched to verify and make these records official. But, the other side of that is a stat correction could go his way and add to already jaw dropping performance.
Where Will Peyton Houston Play College Football?
Peyton Houston, according to Rivals.com, is a 4 star prospect and is ranked 15th nationally for the class of 2027. But the Sophomore stud has a long way to go, presumably, before making a final decision and committing to a college.
However, according to Rivals, he already has 22 offers to basically every major program in the country. Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M have all made their pitches to Houston. Allegedly, he's already had some spring visits to some of these schools including Texas and LSU.
So, it may take a while before we get a definitive answer on where he'll play his college ball...but, it sounds like he's going to have the opportunity to play on Saturdays for the major program of his choosing.
However, it should be noted that according to the experts at Rivals, they're projecting Houston to commit to Oklahoma. Although, some talking heads say that Baton Rouge is Calling and that the allure may be to strong to turn down.
