Shreveport Gumbo Lovers Get Ready for a Festival Just For You
I Have Become a Huge Gumbo Fan Since Moving to Louisiana.
I will forever remember the first time I tried gumbo. I was born and raised in California and didn't hear about it until I moved to the South. I visited New Orleans in 2017, and I was ready to try the coveted dish of Louisiana. I saw a plate of gumbo pass by my table and I asked my waitress "Is it a soup?" the waitress replied, "No, it's gumbo. Do you want to try it or not?", of course, I wanted to try it. It was then, that I was hooked.
If You Are Also a Huge Fan of Gumbo There is a Festival Just For You.
The Battle of the Gumbo Gladiators is an annual fundraiser for Volunteers for Youth Justice. Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport becomes a battlefield for Gumbo lovers. People come from all over the Ark-La-Tex to try over 50 pots of gumbo and battle for the title of Ultimate Gumbo Gladiator.
The different categories are chicken/sausage, seafood, and lagniappe. If you want to go try some of the best gumbo make sure you keep your Saturday, March 8th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. wide open, tickets are available at the gate.
Volunteers for Yout Justice took to their Facebook to say; "All proceeds from this event support services for children, youth, and families in crisis.
There will be other food vendors, raffle items, and a children's area with crafts, face painting, and other fun activities for the kiddos. Bring the fam, your foodie friend, and your appetite, and join us for the tastiest battle of the year"
