Unprecedented. Dominant. Record-breaking. All those words and more could be used to describe the LSU-Shreveport Pilots, as they are now officially record holders in the baseball world. The Pilots swept the #14 ranked University of Houston-Victoria club to break the NAIA record for the longest win streak in baseball history with 44 straight wins to start the season.

They've made history. Now what? Well, they have another set of games to break even more records and a shot at another national championship.

LSUS Extends Unprecedented Win Streak

LSUS baseball has been dominant this season - without a doubt. They made national news by out scoring Texas College 94-4 over a weekend series a couple of weeks ago. They officially broke the NAIA record for the longest win streak in baseball history by blowing out 11-1 & 11-3 in a double header on Friday.

However, they had to work a little bit to extend their historical run on Saturday. In what turned out to be a pitching duel, the Pilots were able to squeak by Houston-Victoria 2-0 on Saturday.

They are now officially 44-0 on the season with 3 more games to go in the regular season.

Eyes on the Postseason Amidst Record Run

I think it goes without saying that the Pilots are going to make the playoffs. That WILL happen. But, before post season play begins, they have one more set of games on the road.

They are set to take on Jarvis Christian in a 3 game set on the road April 25th & 26th. While conventional wisdom would say "maybe let the guys get a little break before trying to make a run at the championship", there's even more history on the line for the Pilots.

According to the NAIA website, the Pilots have a shot at the record for the best win-loss percentage in a season and they have the chance to be the first undefeated baseball program in NAIA history.

Currently, the team with the best record in history finished their season 43-3 (Mount Vernon Nazarene in 1996). One more win, guarantees them that record. Another sweep would mean they're the first undefeated team in history.

To me, championships are more important than records. BUT, when you go 44-0 and are this close to setting a record of this magnitude, it would be hard not to at least try.

Plus, compared to most teams, LSU-S has a track record of success in regular & post season play. They've won 19 Conference Championships, 20 Regional appearances, and 5 NAIA Championships - with their most recent coming in 2022.

How Can You Support the LSU-S Pilots Baseball?

The Pilots are finishing this historical season on the road. So, you can't attend the game unless you're up for a road trip to East Texas. However, you don't need to physically attend the game to support them.

Watch the games on YouTube. Buy your LSU-S merch. Support the team in any way you can. Because, let's be honest here, we may never see a team like this one ever again.
