This August will be the 9th Geek'd Con here in Shreveport. This year's lineup beckons back to the era of Mountain Dew, Doritos, LAN parties, staying up until 2 am, the original Xbox, and the PlayStation 2. Geek'd Con 2024 will feature the voice of the iconic video game legend, John-117 the Master Chief of the Halo franchise on Xbox. What many might find a surprise is that the voice of an iconic video game villain will also be at this year's convention, Billy Zane, best known for his roles in James Cameron's Titanic and Simon Wincer's The Phantom, played the voice of Ansem in the original 2002 action roleplaying game Kingdom Hearts on PlayStation 2.

Kingdom Hearts was critically received when it was released in 2002, with critics like IGN giving the game a 9/10 and Game Informer giving the game a 9.5/10. The game's reception earned it a sequel which was released in 2005 without the voice-acting talent of Billy Zane as the game's antagonist, now going by the name Xemnas. No reason has ever been publicly stated as to why Billy Zane did not return to lend his voice to the villain. You could get the chance to ask him this August in Shreveport at Geek'd Con 2024.

Given this year's Geek'd Con will have an iconic gaming hero and an iconic gaming villain, it raises the question of who would win, Master Chief or Ansem? Fair warning there will likely be spoilers ahead for both the Halo and the Kingdom Hearts games. For the sake of ease, we will be only using the information about each character found on the community-driven sites Kingdon Hearts Wiki and Halopedia. Ansem can control darkness, using the lack of light as a weapon to attack others as well as stealing the hearts of others, Master Chief has good defense against these attacks as his GEN3 MJOLNIR Mark IV armor comes standard with energy shielding and titanium plating. One problem Master Chief would be sure to face against Ansem is his lack of magical knowledge, as Ansem is capable of using magic as a weapon. Master Chief likely would stand a good fight against whatever attacks Ansem could throw at him as his SPARTAN-II augmentations greatly enhance his strength, reflexes, and eyesight, as well as making his bones practically indestructible. So who would win? Well, Ansem is bested by the protagonists of Kingdom Hearts by wearing him down in combat until he makes a fatal mistake in opening the Door to Darkness, which turns out to be filled with Light which destroys Ansem. So Master Chief being a brilliant military tactician and cyborg super-soldier would likely be able to outsmart and possibly out-combat Ansem, coming out victorious.
