Bossier Traffic Nightmare: Truckers Ignoring Detours Cause Chaos
Thursday morning traffic across Bossier was once again snarled, and the blame is landing squarely on 18-wheelers ignoring clearly marked detours. A disabled rig near the Old Minden Road construction zone sparked frustration among travelers, where most point out the ongoing issue and question why enforcement isn’t stricter.
Truckers Ignoring the Signs
Despite multiple signs instructing truckers to divert via I-220, many are still attempting to navigate the narrow lanes of the I-20 construction zone. One person observed a truck blow past the 220 exit, then pull off onto the shoulder in apparent regret. “He realized too late,” they said. “Maybe he thought he could loop back around at Industrial.”
Enforce It—And Make It Hurt
Suggestions have poured in on how to address the problem, from posting more Bossier Police motorcycle units along the route to drastically increasing fines. “Make it a $1,000 fine,” one said. “The companies will start making it clear: If you break the rules, it’s coming out of your paycheck.”
Bigger Mess Down the Road
With trucks being forced off at Airline Drive, drivers are attempting to reroute through surface streets like Texas Street and Spring Market, which only compounds the gridlock. Can you imagine 18-wheelers coming through downtown Shreveport? That’s a mess waiting to happen.
