
Shreveport Police Ramp Up Downtown Presence Ahead of Key Meeting
Shreveport police beefed up patrols in downtown over the weekend.
The mobile command center was located in the area and police on bikes and on foot patrol were also keeping an eye out. The Caddo Sheriff's Office also sent deputies to the area to help patrol the downtown district.
City leaders will be meeting again today to talk about our police response in downtown. Bu the Public Safety Committee will also be discussing several other big topics.
Some of these topics range from police cameras to the progress at Fire Station 8 and police cars.
When Is Shreveport Public Safety Committee Meeting
The meeting is scheduled for today (Monday) at 1:30 p.m. at Government Plaza on Travis Street. Councilman Gary Brooks chairs the committee and he wants to get updates on several key areas impacting public safety in Shreveport.

What Are the Big Issues Before the Committee:
Fire Station 8 Update: Officials will provide the latest information on progress related to the long-anticipated Fire Station 8 project, which serves a critical part of the city’s emergency response network.
Police Surveillance Trailers: The Shreveport Police Department will present new statistics on how effective the city’s police surveillance trailers have been in reducing crime and monitoring high-traffic areas.
RTCC Camera Replacement: Committee members will consider plans to replace outdated Real Time Crime Center cameras in the Red River Entertainment District — a busy nightlife area that’s been a focus of beefed up security efforts.
Food Truck Permit Enforcement: The city is also reviewing enforcement efforts around food truck permits, a growing issue as more mobile vendors operate across Shreveport.
Mobile Command Center Deployment: Officials will discuss the latest deployment strategy for the Mobile Command Center, used during large-scale events and emergencies.
Police Vehicle Update: The committee will receive an update on the status of Shreveport’s police vehicle fleet, including repairs, replacements, and funding.
Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith and Fire Chief Clarence Reese Jr. are expected to attend the meeting.
