Shreveport Police Step Up Enforcement Against Felons with Firearms

The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) is intensifying its efforts to remove illegally possessed firearms from the hands of convicted felons, a strategy deemed vital to reducing violent crime within the community. Under both state and federal law, individuals with felony convictions are strictly prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Unit Nabs Suspect with Armed Robbery History

On October 28th, the SPD’s Violent Crimes Abatement Team arrested 24-year-old Korey Ellis following an investigation. Ellis has been charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Court records show Ellis was previously convicted of armed robbery in 2020.

Aggravated Assault Investigation Leads to Second Felony Gun Charge

Enforcement continued as patrol officers took Kerry Owens into custody after investigating an aggravated assault with a firearm that occurred on October 25th. During the investigation, police determined that Owens is also a convicted felon with multiple prior convictions, including armed robbery and several narcotics offenses.

Owens now faces serious charges, including two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Shreveport Domestic Incident Reveals Third Prohibited Gun Owner

Separately, SPD officers arrested Evan Goodin following a domestic incident on October 27th. The investigation revealed that Goodin was in possession of a firearm despite a prior felony conviction for illegal possession of stolen things, which prohibits him from gun ownership. Goodin has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Shreveport Police Department released a statement saying it has emphasized its commitment to identifying and removing illegally possessed firearms from convicted felons. The department stated that these focused arrests are a core part of their mission to ensure a safer community for all residents.
