The People’s Union Calls for Fireworks Boycott: Will Shreveport Comply?
A national activist group is urging residents to boycott public fireworks displays this 4th of July. The People's Union USA is calling this "the most important boycott of the year" by the organizer. The group is urging folks to stay away from parades and other celebrations for the birthday of the USA.
Shreveport is one of the locations for a community-wide fireworks show this Friday night. The organizers want you to stay home with family and friends and only support small businesses over the 4th of July weekend.
What Is the People's Union?
This is a grassroots movement focused on "economic resistance, corporate accountability, and real justice for the working class. We’re not a political party, we’re a movement for the people. All people. No matter your background, beliefs, or affiliation."
So far this year, the group has called for boycotts against Target, Walmart, Amazon, McDonald's and other corporate giants. They are trying to "unite everyday Americans against the greed and corruption that’s kept us divided, distracted, and struggling for decades."
The People's Union cites "recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests, corporate actions, backlash against protests, and current Trump administration policies as reasons for the upcoming boycott."

Are More Boycotts Planned?
This group is planning to boycott several corporate giants for the entire month of July. The companies included are Home Depot, Starbucks and Amazon. The People's Union is not happy with the change at Home Depot which rolled back its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Are people in Shreveport-Bossier paying attention to these boycotts? I don't see much buzz about this on social media. Only a couple of mentions about the boycotts can be found locally.
