Celebrate National Dessert Day with Louisiana’s Sweetest Treats
It is almost time to celebrate one of the best things we ever get to enjoy during a great dinner out on the town. October 14 is National Dessert Day. This is something we should all celebrate.
The Top Five Desserts You Must Try in Louisiana
Louisiana residents have quite a sweet tooth. We love our desserts. But we also have some very iconic desserts. Did your favorite make the list?
1. Beignets
No Louisiana dessert list is complete without beignets. These fluffy, fried pastries dusted with powdered sugar are a New Orleans staple, best enjoyed hot with a cup of chicory coffee at Café du Monde.
2. Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce
This is just a warm delicacy. The best version is made from French bread, cream, and spices. The real star is the rich whiskey sauce that takes it over the top.
3. King Cake
Another Louisiana standout. This is a sweet, colorful, braided pastry topped with purple, green, and gold sugar. Hidden inside is a small plastic baby—find it in your slice, and tradition says you host the next party.
4. Pralines
One of my favorites. But very sweet. These candies are made from sugar, butter, and pecans. I love to try homemade pralines because this one tough dessert to make from scratch.
5. Bananas Foster
How can we forget this legendary Louisiana dessert? It was Invented in New Orleans. Bananas Foster is flambéed with rum, brown sugar, and cinnamon before being poured over vanilla ice cream—a dessert with flair.
