
Shreveport City Council Greenlights Balanced $331 Million Budget
After a couple of months of public hearings and meetings with staff, the Shreveport City Council has passed the budget for 2026. This budget includes pay raises for most city workers.

What This Shreveport Budget Will Do
Shreveport Chief Administrative Officer Tom Dark tells the council this proposal will increase pay for all police and firefighters and city workers who make under $75K a year.
Dark says the council has passed a $331 million dollar balanced budget. The total package includes money for equipment for police, fire and public works. This budget also includes pay raises for a large percentage of city workers. That pay raise will go into effect on May 1.

What City Workers Will Get Pay Raises
All city workers who make under $75 thousand dollars will get a 3% increase in pay. Police and fire employees will be getting a 5% pay increase. But that includes the 2% longevity pay increase mandated by the state.
This budget also preserves the reserve fund above the 8% mark.
What Shreveport Mayor Says about the 2026 Budget
Mayor Tom Arceneaux applauded the open dialogue and transparency in passing this budget. He says the administration and the council had a good discussion about priorities and making the tough decisions. He says this has been a healthy process for the citizens and he thanked the council for how this budget has been handled.

Council Chairwoman Tabatha Taylor also praised the administration for being open in bringing this budget to light. She says
Our employees are our priority and we want to make sure this city operates efficiently and effectively. Sometimes we have to go back and forth to make that happen. But I do appreciate you all.
