The Shreveport Police Department have been working hard to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

Over the past few days, SPD has made three arrests involving guns. These arrests highlight SPD's commitment to keeping the community safe!

On October 3rd, SPD Officers conducted a traffic stop that led to the arrest of Elmer Ford. Ford was found to be driving an unregistered vehicle and didn't have insurance. During the investigation, officers found Ford to be in possession of Schedule II narcotics and a gun. Ford is a convicted felon with several drug convictions and a conviction for domestic battery by strangulation, which prohibits him from possessing a gun. He was booked on the following charges:

· Felon in possession of a firearm

· Possession of Schedule II narcotics

· Illegal carrying of weapons

· Traffic-related offenses

On October 2nd, members of SPD's Warrant Unit arrested Isreal Edwards on domestic abuse warrants. Edwards resisted Officers but was ultimately arrested. During the arrest, officers found he was in possession of a gun. Edwards, who has prior felony convictions for domestic abuse and aggravated battery, and is prohibited from owning guns. He now faces charges including:

· Felon in possession of a firearm

· Domestic abuse battery by strangulation

· Domestic abuse battery with child endangerment

· Resisting an officer

On October 5th, officers arrested Brayan Miranda following an incident in which he was accused of aggravated assault with a gun. Officers recovered the gun, which was found to be stolen. Miranda was booked on these charges:

· Illegal possession of a stolen firearm

· Aggravated assault with a firearm

“These arrests highlight our department’s unwavering commitment to taking illegally possessed firearms off the streets. When convicted felons or violent offenders are found with weapons, the risk to our community increases dramatically. We will continue to hold offenders accountable and work tirelessly to protect the people of Shreveport.”
