Northwest Louisiana Braces for Possible Severe Weather
SHREVEPORT, LA Shreveport looking at the possibilty of severe weather for later today.
North Louisiana could be facing severe thunderstorms by this afternoon with even the slight possibility of a tornado or possible hail. A check of the Weather Channel website shows the chance of rain and thunderstorms increase throughout the day on Thursday.
Richard Lewelling, meteorologist with the Weather Channel told KEEL News on Thursday morning:
I think after 11 oclock this morning is when you're going to start to see the showers and thunderstorm activity start to pick up. As we get into the primary heating of the day is when you'll start to see some of the best chances of strong to severe storms. Lewelling added: It's not going to be a total slam dunk in regards to severe weather. There's really probably about a 1 in 3 chance we could see some storms that could produce some large hail, damaging winds, and even a few tornadoes this afternoon.
It's been an extremely mild winter so far this year, with temperatures over the Christmas break reaching into the 70's over the weekend. When asked about whether or not we were going to see some actual 'mosquito killing' cold temperatures, Lewelling stated we're in for an over-all mild winter this year.
Yeah, it's looking pretty mild here. I think we're looking at some cold weather once we get out past January 15th, I think that we will see some patterns developing that we will see a pattern where we will see some cold weather. But even as we look out to February or March, we're already starting to see patterns where it's starting to trend where it will be warmer again.
