Earlier this week, Shreveport Police got a disturbing call from a school bus driver saying that they had found a toddler walking through the rainstorm in the street. The child was completely naked, and unaccompanied. When Police arrived on Sussex Avenue where the call came from, the child had taken shelter on the bus.

Police started an investigation, and thankfully the toddler knew where she lived. SPD approached the Sussex Avenue home, and noted that the door had no functioning doorknob. This, unfortunately, was only the first sign of trouble. Officers announced that they were out front with the child, and the child's mother, Kaneesha Williams came to the door.

Because of the state the toddler was in, SPD was able to go inside the home to conduct a welfare check, and walked in to a house of horrors! What SPD Officers describes as "deplorable living conditions" is putting it pretty lightly. Officers discovered that the home had no furniture, was littered with garbage, and had no food or refrigerator.

Checking the house further, Officers found multiple children living in these horrific conditions with one dirty mattress on the floor surrounded by dirty clothes. The bathroom was it's own nightmare, with the toilet and bathtub filled with excrement with no functional plumbing.

Williams was arrested and charged with four counts of Criminal Neglect of Family, one for each child residing in the home.

The Department of Children and Family Services were called to the scene to help take care of the children, along with Shreveport Police Juvenile Detectives.

From SPD:

"This case was deeply troubling for all involved, and the Shreveport Police Department remains committed to protecting the welfare of the most vulnerable members of our community—our children. We urge anyone aware of similar situations to contact authorities immediately."
