Louisiana Drivers Rejoice: OMV Rolls Out Big System Improvements
There’s not a licensed Louisiana driver who hasn’t gotten frustrated by a visit to the Office of Motor Vehicles. But there might be some good news for your next visit.
Louisiana's Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) successfully implemented a crucial mainframe upgrade over the weekend, marking a significant stride towards modernizing its operations and enhancing the customer experience for drivers across the state. This upgrade is a key component of a broader initiative to overhaul the OMV's outdated operating system.
The newly installed mainframe brings the OMV system of record to its latest version, equipping state IT resources with improved insights into system performance and more robust monitoring tools. This successful installation represents the third phase of a comprehensive system upgrade for the OMV.
Improving Customer Experience
Evelina Broussard, Secretary of the state’s Office of Technology Services (OTS), emphasized the immediate benefits of the upgrade, stating, "We were looking for immediate opportunities to improve customer experience while we prepare for the upcoming definitive resolution for the Office of Motor Vehicles."
A Unified Approach to Modernization
OMV Commissioner Bryan Adams highlighted the critical partnership with OTS: "The partnership we share with Office of Technology Services has been instrumental in shaping the future of the Office of Motor Vehicles. We have remained committed to advancing our plans for a new system that will better serve the people of our great state. I am deeply humbled by Governor Landry’s confidence and support in this endeavor. Together, as one team, we are stronger and better equipped to meet the needs of our customers."

The new mainframe promises a faster and more transparent experience for OMV customers. The next phase of this extensive system upgrade is scheduled for later this month, with the implementation of new vehicle registration and driver's license software slated to begin.
