Speaker Johnson Celebrates Big Win With Trump’s Budget Bill Passage

After months of wrangling and bickering, it’s a done deal. The massive budget bill pushed by President Donald Trump passes in the U.S. House.

Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana has spent several days trying to convince several Republican holdouts to get on board and support the “big beautiful bill.” Johnson made it happen.

The final vote was 218-214, with just two Republicans voting no in the end. Those two were Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania.

Speaker Johnson is clearly elated:

Speaker Johnson along with Majority Leader Steve Scalise and other top Republicans issued a statement after the bill was passed and sent on to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.

The statement also says:

“Republicans in Congress have succeeded in our mission to enact President Trump’s America First agenda. And importantly, we did it in record time, so that the effects of this nation-shaping legislation can be felt by the American people as soon as possible.”

The Republican leadership team also says “today, the House has passed generational legislation that permanently lowers taxes for families and job creators, secures the border, unleashes American energy dominance, restores peace through strength, reduces spending more than any other bill ever has, and makes government more efficient and effective for all Americans.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has now announced that President Trump is planning to sign the bill on Friday afternoon at a White House ceremony calling passage "a victorious day for the American people."
