Blue Bell Ice Cream of Texas is Changing Their Recipe?
In the category of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," this would be at the top of the list... right under Southern Maid Donuts changing ANYTHING about how they make their hot, fresh glazed perfection.
What Makes Blue Bell Ice Cream So Good?
I had heard at one time what makes Blue Bell the best ice cream on the planet is that they have 'the highest fat content.' Well, it turns out that actually isn't the case. In fact, Blue Bell generally has a lower butterfat content than premium brands like Haagen-Dazs. Haagen-Dazs is known for its rich, creamy texture, which is achieved through a higher butterfat content, according to some consumer information sites.
So I am going to say it's even healthier. Ok, I'm going to tell myself that. So they aren't changing their fat content. They don't need to.
What Instigated this Recipe Change?
In light of the MAHA Movement that is sweeping the country, many major food companies and brands are making changes. Lays announced it is removing artificial colors and dyes from their potato chips. Coca-Cola recently announced they are moving to pure cane sugar as a sweetener instead of high-fructose corn syrup.
What is Blue Bell Changing?
Like dozens of other US ice cream companies, Brenham Creamery, the divinely inspired company that makes Blue Bell Ice Cream announced via social media that they have pledged to eliminate the use of artificial colors Red 3, Red 40, Green 3, Blue 1, Blue 2, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 from their products by the end of 2027.
Will it Change the Way Blue Bell Tastes?
Fear not, lovers of the true half-gallon, for none of the ingredients being removed are used to enhance flavor. So it should still be the best ice cream on the planet.
