Just when you thought the Cowboys’ season couldn’t get any worse, they had to go and do this.

As a lifelong Cowboy fan, I’ve endured some pretty rough seasons. Jimmy Johnson’s first season as head coach, which ended with a 1-15 record, immediately comes to mind.

However, it felt like there was hope for the future back then. And sure enough, those teams would go on to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years, securing their legacy as the “team of the 90s.”

But I’m not feeling very hopeful these days.

I would say the only thing we fans can legitimately hope for is that they tear the whole thing down and start over. Of course, that isn’t going to happen with all the money they have tied up in star players who are underperforming.

The thing I hear the talking heads in the sports media talking about is how the Cowboys desperately need a culture change. While it’s not all on the head coach, making the change everyone knows is coming could help improve the culture.

Speaking of great head coaches and winning cultures and all that good stuff, it doesn’t get any better than the legendary Tom Landry (aka the guy who was unceremoniously fired by Jerry Jones right after he bought the team).

Well, yesterday the team was showing a montage of veterans who were members of the organization for Veterans Day. And while I didn’t see it myself, there is no more credible source than David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

During the game yesterday, Moore posted on X that during the montage, the Cowboys honored their first head coach and World War II veteran by spelling his name “Tom Laundry.”

I guess you could say the dysfunction of that organization extends far beyond the play on the field. Unbelievable.
