Philly Cheesesteak Shop Closed Without Notice in Shreveport
The building at 6197 Greenwood Rd in West Shreveport has developed a reputation for being unable to hold a thriving restaurant, leaving residents mystified about why this key location can’t seem to stay open.
Recent History of the Shreveport Spot
The site, conveniently located right off of I-20, was initially met with optimism. In May of 2022, Daq's, a wing and daiquiri spot, opened with high hopes for the West Shreveport lunch crowd. However, the excitement was short-lived, and Daq's permanently closed down in February of 2024. The quick failure started the local rumors of a potential "curse."
What Happened to Whataphilly?
Not long after the closure, another casual eatery moved in: Whataphilly. This restaurant focused on classic Philly cheesesteaks, dedicating itself to the "beloved Philly tradition" of "juicy steak, melted cheese, and fresh toppings."Despite offering a product with little direct competition in the area, the business quickly changed its name to Mr. Philly, a quiet rebranding some speculate was due to a trademark or name issue. The menu didn't change, but the name change wasn't enough to save the business.
Location Permanently Closed
The property at 6197 Greenwood Rd, Shreveport, LA 71119, is now listed as permanently closed on Google Business. There has been no mention of a reopening date or another rebrand.
Could the new Panda Express and Golden Chick be the reason that Mr.Philly failed?
The question remains for the Shreveport community: What kind of restaurant or franchise could finally break the curse and thrive in this prime West Shreveport location?
