Shooting At Bossier High Football Game Sends 2 To Hospital
Violence wasn't exclusive to the activity on the field last night at Bossier High School.
According to Bossier City spokesperson Louis Johnson, a group of teens and young adults got into an argument that escalated to the point that one person was shot.
KTBS has reported that the shooting took place around 8:30 pm last night during a scrimmage football game at Bossier High School.
Multiple sources have revealed that the shooting occurred in a stadium parking lot on the Monroe Street side of the football stadium which is home to the Bossier Bearkats.
Bossier High School had been celebrating "Spirit Night" when a person fired a handgun wounding a man who was later taken to the hospital for treatment of his wounds which didn't appear to be life-threatening.
Spokesperson Johnson stated that the alleged shooter was also transported to the hospital for treatment of some type of medical reason.
Johnson with BCPD provided more insight to KEEL News:
There was an altercation among a group of young people. One of the students left the stadium and came back with a parent. The fight escalated in the parking lot and one adult shot the other adult. The shooter then suffered from a medical condition. Both were rushed to the hospital. About a dozen students were involved in the initial fight. No students have been arrested at this point, but the investigation continues.
In a press release from the Bossier Sheriff's Department, we get even more detail in this developing story.
That release highlights that a 43-year-old male, Anthony Hughes, had gotten into an altercation with some juveniles during the event, which led to a fight with one of them in the parking lot.
The suspect, 32-year old Marcus Kelly, exited his car and shot Hughes one time in the torso while Hughes was engaged in the fight with the juvenile who was a passenger in Kelly’s vehicle.
Both parties then jumped into their vehicles and began travelling on Bearkat Drive when Hughes rammed Kelly’s vehicle after it was stopped by BSO deputies. Bossier Sheriff School Resource Officers responded very quickly to the incident and were able to detain Hughes and Kelly without incident and recover the firearm.
Bossier City Police responded to the scene and assisted BSO with securing the crime scene. Bossier City Fire transported both Hughes and Kelly to Ochsner’s LSU Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. BSO Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators arrived and began an investigation into the incident.
After his release from the hospital, Kelly was arrested and transported to the Bossier Maximum-Security Facility where he was booked on warrants for:
- Attempted Second Degree Murder
- Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
- Possession of a Firearm on a School Campus.
Kelly’s bond has been set at $305,000. An arrest warrant for Aggravated Criminal Property Damage is pending for Hughes upon his release from the hospital
