Black told Hathaway she could not afford to hire a lawyer. The Caddo Parish Indigent Defender's Office was appointed to represent her.

Black is accused of throwing 2 of her children from the Cross Lake Bridge on Friday, September 24. Her 8-month-old son died while her 5-year-old son Elijah survived but was hospitalized for his injuries.

The baby was found floating in the lake by a lawn crew working in the area. Cross Lake Patrol found the older child floating on his back. He did suffer an injury to his face.

Black was arrested at the rest area in Waskom, Texas.

During today's court hearing, bond was not set. Black is due back in court on December 17 for arraignment.
