Best Covers Ever (This Year): DC Comics 2016 Edition
What may go down as one of the worst years in recent memory is slowly crawling to a close, and while we wish it good riddance and hope against hope that 2017 will be an improvement, there is some small solace in looking back over the year that's passed and figuring out what stuff from it was the best. That's right, it's "Best of..." list time, and today we're taking a look at the Best DC Covers of 2016.
Best Covers Ever (This Year): Marvel Comics 2016 Edition
It’s that blessed time of the year where we all try to take stock of what we’ve done with our lives and what other people have created that we enjoyed. That's right, it's time to start putting together our "Best of 2016" lists, and today we're going to take a look at the Best Marvel Covers of 2016.
Fantastic Five: Worst Superman Costumes
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.
Superman is responsible for laying the foundation for what we would come to know as the "superhero costume", so it stands to reason that every time anything about his changes; it makes headlines and gets people talking. But for a character that’s been around as long as Superman, it’d be silly not to expect him to mix it up every now and then and try on a new outfit. But they can’t all compete with his classic look. In fact, most of them can’t. The red, yellow, and blue has stood the test of time for a reason, so this week we’re looking at a few of Superman’s less successful wardrobe choices.
Fantastic Five: Best Video Game Comics
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.
Comic fans and video game fans are two groups that share an awful lot of overlap, and webcomics like Penny Arcade and artists like Zac Gorman, have made all kinds of comics about video games for the internet, but what about actual comic books? In a previous video, we told you about five video games that deserved comics, but this week, it’s all about some of the very best video games that have made the leap from consoles to comic pages.
Amazing! The Best Spider-Man Fan Art Ever
Prior to the release of Civil War, when Marvel and Sony announced their new joint arrangement to bring a fresh spider-face to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a lot of fans felt an overwhelming sense of malaise and apathy towards the idea of a third take on a silver screen Spidey in only 15 years. “Do we really need another Spider-Man movie?” was a phrase that gained a lot of traction on Twitter and as extremely clickable headline fodder for both sides of the argument. But with only a few short, but spectacular scenes, those sentiments quickly shifted to “I can’t wait for the new Spider-Man movie!” and “What other Spider-Man movies?”
And it’s in celebration of those sentiments that we present this collection of some of the best Spider-Man fan art from around the… wait for it… web.
Fantastic Five: Best Batman Team-Ups
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.
This week the bats are out of the belfry as we look at five of Batman’s greatest team-ups!
Mad Love: The Best Harley Quinn Fan Art Ever
Everyone loves Harley Quinn. Honestly. Try to find me someone who’s even passingly familiar with her that doesn’t think she’s a great character. There’s just no two ways about it, tip to toe, Harley Quinn is a character people love. In fact, she’s several characters people love, because every new iteration of her that comes along immediately finds a fanbase that’s as devoted to her as she is to the Joker or Poison Ivy (depending on what you’re reading/watching/shipping).
Whether it be the original version from Batman: The Animated Series, the more extreme version of the New 52 (or the later, slightly more traditional version from the New 52), the “edgy” version from the Arkham Asylum series of Batman video games, or even the version from the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. The art we’ve collected here stands as proof that Harley fans are ready to show their love by spending their precious time making endless artistic examples of their devotion.
Fantastic Five: Female Supermen
Hello again and welcome to another episode of Fantastic Fives, the show where we tell you the irrefutably correct five answers to a particular topic in comics, and you tell us how wrong we are in the comments! This week we’re looking at the best female Supermen.
When Superman started leaping buildings and out-powering locomotives, the age of superheroes was born! And when you’re responsible for the birth of a new genre of entertainment, it stands to reason that people are going to try to take what works about your formula and do their own thing with it.

Superheroes are a dime a dozen in comics, but there’s only one Superman! Not only is Superman the first and greatest superhero, he also set the standard for what a superhero was and could be. So it's not really surprising that over the years Marvel has tried to come up with their own version of the Man of Steel. Obviously, some are a little more super than others. This week we'll look at the five best super-pretenders Marvel has to offer!
