After months of speculation and shortlists featuring everyone from Miles Teller to Taron Egerton, it looks like we may have a frontrunner for the role of young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Star Wars prequel / spinoff. Alden Ehrenreich, the charming breakout star of the Coen brothersHail, Caesar! has reportedly emerged as the top pick, edging out his fellow Han Solo hopefuls for the highly-coveted role.

Following a series of screen tests, Deadline reports that Ehrenreich is the frontrunner for the iconic Star Wars role originated by Harrison Ford. The Hail, Caesar! star was on the most recent shortlist for the part alongside Kingsman’s Taron Egerton and Sing Street’s Jack Reynor — all of whom screen-tested for Han Solo, but Ehrenreich is reportedly the clear favorite.

Lord and Miller’s untitled Han Solo film centers on a younger version of the Millennium Falcon pilot before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, and — obviously — features his famous BFF Chewbacca. Little else is known about the film, which is scheduled for a May 25, 2018 release. Lawrence Kasdan scripted the film, which marks his final outing with the Star Wars franchise.

Ehrenreich appears next in Warren Beatty’s untitled Howard Hughes biopic, which stars Beatty as the aging entrepreneur / filmmaker and is eyeing an awards season release later this year.
