Yesterday in History: “Gone with the Wind”[Video]
One of the most famous movies of all time premiered in Atlanta, Georgia - "Gone With The Wind" - on Dec. 13th, 1939. The movie was adapted from a novel written by Margaret Mitchell published in 1936.
The movie, starring Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland, and Hattie McDaniel set in the deep south tells a story of the Civil War and follows the life and loves of a wealthy southern lady, Scarlett O'hara. The Civil War is going on and the movie actually depicts the burning of Atlanta by Union soldiers.
Scartlett's turbulent relationship with a romantic rich southern gentleman - Rhett Butler- whom she ends up marrying and having a child with, is the underlying theme of the movie.
Also yesterday in history on Dec. 13, 1950, James Dean who is still unknown at that time appears in a Pepsi commercial, dancing with other teens around a jukebox. This is five years before he becomes an icon for the teenage revolution in such films as "Rebel Without a Cause." Check out this rare video of James Dean in the cola commercial.
