Congratulations to winners, Hal Wilbanks, of Shreveport, and James Whiddon, of Logansport.
This great band conjures up a variety of genres, rock, rhythm and blues, jazz, country and gospel.
I first heard them when they were rock and their big hit was "Can't You See," which was released in 1973 on their debut album, Marshall Tucker Band.
Their other hugely popular song, "Heard It in a Love Song ," was released in 1977 from the album, "Carolina Dreams." That album was certified platinum and turned out to be the band's most commercially successful album.
By the way, do you know how the band got its name? There never was a guy named Marshall Tucker in the group. They got the name from a blind piano tuner whose name was written on the key to the door of a warehouse they were renting for rehearsals.
It just so happened, they were talking about names for the band, when one of the guys noticed the inscription on the key, which was the piano tuner's name, Marshall Tucker.
The man had rented the warehouse before them, and the landlord hadn't changed the name. And the rest is history.
