Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, is blacked out for 24 hours as of midnight this morning. The reason: politics! Most of us use Wikipedia as a quick fix to find out information, even though, it's many times not a credible source, because anyone can post anything on the website.

The blackout is in protest of piracy bills.  The bills are SOPA and PIPA.  SOPA stands for "Stop Online Piracy Act."  "PIPA"  is an acronym for "Protect  IP Act."

"IP" stands for intellectual property.   Basically,  the bills are meant to stop copyright infringement committed by foreign web sites, but, according to Wikipedia, they do so in a way that actually infringes free expression while harming the Internet.

I think Wikipedia's blackout is censureship and that infringes on our freedom of speech, so I propose a boycott of Wikipedia when the blackout is over.

There are other places to find out information via the internet that are more accurate than Wikipedia anyway.  Wikipedia is really a lazy quick fix to grab info that you're not sure is true or accurate.  So, as of today,  I won't ever click on the Wikipedia website again.

Let me know what you think, for or against Wikipedia's blackout today.

And would you be willing to join a boycott of Wikipedia for imposing today's blackout for their political views?
