The Flood of 2016 was easily one of the most catastrophic events ever in the lives of thousands here in the Ark-La-Tex and many are still suffering from the effects.

In fact, according to officials with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, there are still over 200 homes on a waiting list to be cleaned out after the flood.  Many of these are home to veterans and senior citizens.

The reason so many homes are on the waiting list is that there simply aren't enough volunteers to help the faith based organization to support the community.

According to a press release from Southern Baptist Disaster Relief:

FEMA has reported that over 2300 citizens have sought assistance in Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, and Webster parishes. You can help by volunteering your time for just one day to help your neighbors. Sports teams, youth groups, debate teams, service clubs are all welcome. Louisiana Initiative for Nonprofit and Community Collaboration (LINCC) is asking our community to give a day to help their neighbors through organized volunteer efforts that can be found on the LINCC website at www.lincc.us.

And timing is critical with temperatures warming, these homes need to be cleaned as quickly as possible.

A volunteer must be at least 14 and for those teenagers participating, a parent/guardian must sign a release waiver.

Daily training for cleaning out the flooded homes is provided.

To volunteer, please contact Southern Baptist Disaster Relief which serves Caddo, Bossier, Webster, DeSoto, and Claiborne parishes.  Ask for Verna at (318) 229-9645 to volunteer or to ask for help to clean out your home (Mud outs).

They're currently housed at Haughton First Baptist Church, 105 E. Washington Ave., Haughton.
