Valentine's Day doesn't have to break your budget. If you're like me your budget's already broke and you're having to be creative with your gift giving. I don't get paid until tomorrow, so the gift I'm giving my husband will cost absolutely nothing.

I'm going to clean the kitchen! That's right. It's been a mess for about a week now.  Nobody's been home and everyone's been busy,  so I'm gonna clean it from top to bottom for a Valentine's gift for Wayland. I might even iron some shirts for him.

Other gifts that cost virtually nothing if you're on a tight budget include going on a picnic,  making a card out of a poster, or if you're really creative, writing your loved one a poem or a song.  You can also write "I Love You" on the bathroom mirror in red lipstick or write "I Love You" in the fog.

Here's how much money folks have spent on Valentine's Day for the past several years.  These statistics are courtesy of USA Today.

  • In 2007,  $120
  • In 2008,   $123
  • In 2009,   $103
  • In 2010,   $103
  • In 2011,    $116
  • In 2012,    $126

As you can tell from these stats,  during the economic crash of 2009 and 2010,  people spent less, and the good economic news is that this year, they'll spend the most they have in five years.

Happy Valentine's Day,  whether you go expensive or cheap, the idea is love and you don't have to pay for that!
