The Scripps National Spelling Bee is a big deal for children all across the country. Hundreds of kids travel to Washington DC for a chance to win all sorts of amazing prizes including $40,000! And this year, we have two local kids competing for the chance to take home the cup and the cash.

Calvin Alexander, in his second consecutive trip to the Scripps Spelling Bee, will be representing Caddo Middle Magnet and Shreveport. This year, Scripps, for the first time ever, is allowing wild card contestants. Which opened the door for Sidarth Mody from the Southfield School to compete.

There are also several competitors from Monroe, Baton Rouge and other cities from around the state.

You can watch the competition live on ESPN today (May 29th) through Thursday. Below, you can find the full television schedule. Good luck to Calvin and Sidarth!
