There's nothing like getting out in the great outdoors and camping, is there?

I've always enjoyed being outdoors and I'm not opposed to pitching a tent and spending a few days in the outdoors. Peace, quiet, the smell of food cooking over an open fire. I'm all for that. When I was a kid, this consisted of my brother and I pitching the tent in our yard (I grew up on 40 acres in the mountains of California) and spending the night outside with our dad. Of course, we ended up sneaking back into the house at some point during the night, but that's besides the point.

So where is the best place to camp in the Ark-La-Tex?

Well, according to Travel and Leisure Magazine, there are three wonderful places to camp in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. The publication compiled a list of the top places to camp in each state.

Arkansas: Buffalo National River - Home to the first national river that flows 135 miles through the Ozarks. Float the river or hike to the Lost Valley's caverns. Aside from the peaceful pools, there is 200-foot Hemmed-in Hollow falls. It's all topped with a gorgeous forest.

Louisiana: Lake Bistineau State Park - Described by T+L as a "true Southern experience" this area is filled with tulepo trees and bald cypress. You can explore this area by foot or by boat. It's also a great place for fishing.

Texas: Chisos Basin Campground - Located in Big Bend National Park this place is 800,000 acres. Enjoy the Chisos Mountains, Chihuahua Desert and the Rio Grande River. You can truly sleep under the stars at a high-altitude campground nestled in the rocky cliffs.
