Three people have been injured after their car was hit by a train Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at around 1:30 p.m. in the 8800 Block of Mansfield Rd at Meriwether in Shreveport.

According to Shreveport Police, a Toyota was headed into Century Memorial Cemetery, where the three occupants of the car were attending a funeral. The car crashed into an oncoming train as it was crossing. The police spoke to the engineer, who said he was sounding the engines horn, but the car looked like the driver was trying to beat the train.

According to one witness, one of the passengers may have been ejected from the vehicle.

One northbound lane of Mansfield Road was blocked during the preliminary investigation and crash clean-up.

All three passengers were taken to the hospital. One was transported in critical condition.

There is a sign, but there are no lights or crossing arm at that particular railway crossing.

This is a developing story, and we will update it as more details come available.
