Tony Romo Out For Regular Season Finale

Will he or won't he play on Sunday.  The answer: he won't.

After a week of posturing by the Dallas Cowboys staff, it was announced today that quarterback Tony Romo had surgery on his back which will cause him to miss the regular season finale.

Coach Jason Garrett said Romo had the surgery after spending the week consulting with doctors after his hurt it in the win against the Washington Redskins.

This game is critical for the Cowboys to win, as a victory against NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles will put the Cowboys into the playoffs.  They lose and the Eagles will be taking that playoff spot.

The Cowboys signed formerly-but-still-kinda-is retired quarterback Jon Kitna to be the backup to the regular backup, Kyle Orton, who will get the start Sunday night.

Orton is best known as being a former starter for the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos several years ago.  He's been in three games in 2012 and 2013, with only 5 pass attempts this season.

Meanwhile, Romo has lost the past two winner-take-all finales he's played in.  He lost to the New York Giants two years ago and Washington last year.  He also lost to the Eagles in another winner-take-all matchup in 2008.

After a rough start this season, a statement that would qualify for most of the NFC East, Philadelphia (9-6) looks to finish a complete turnaround from last year's 4-12 record.  The Cowboys (8-7) need to win to end a three-year playoff drought.
