What's up in the world of sports across Louisiana?

Spring Games got underway this past weekend. In Baton Rouge, the White team defeated the Purple team 45-6. The quarterback battle between Parkway great Brandon Harris and Junior Anthony Jennings appeared to be a repeat from last year’s Spring Game, as both were equal, in terms of play during the game. With the first team offense, Harris was 7-for-7, throwing for 141 yards and two touchdowns. With the first team offense for Jennings, he was 8-for-14, throwing for 215 yards, also with two touchdowns. After the game, when LSU football coach Les Miles was asked about the improvement of the quarterbacks, Miles said he’s “Much more confident. I feel like we've taken strides at the quarterback positions.”

Jeff Driskel helped the Blue squad get past the White squad in Louisiana Tech’s spring game, 35-34, in a comeback effort! Driskel found sophomore wide receiver Marcus Gaines for a late three yard touchdown. And, the two point conversion from senior Sanford Seay gave the blue squad the lead and the win. Driskel, the Florida transfer was 22-for-40 throwing for 269 yards and threw four touchdowns!

The LSU baseball team’s attempted road sweep of the Georgia Bulldogs was halted on Sunday afternoon, after the game was cancelled due to weather. Officials said the game will not be made up. Despite the cancellation, the Tigers did win the series over the weekend, capped by LSU’s 9-1 in Game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. The usual Friday starter, Jared Poche went seven innings, giving up four hits, and only a solo home run. Poche’s now 7-1 this season. Kade Scivicque homered, to extend his hitting streak to 24 games.

The Pelicans, who fell in Game one to the Golden State Warriors 106-99, play in game two in Oakland against Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and the Warriors tonight at 9:30 on TNT and Fox Sports New Orleans.
