What's new in local sports?

Captain Shreve head coach and Athletic Director, Richard Lary passed away suddenly Saturdayafter suffering a heart attack while attending the Gators baseball game with Southwood.
The Montgomery High School and Northwestern State University grad began his coaching career at Woodlawn High School under Dennis Dunn while also adding head softball coaching duties.  From there, Lary moved to Huntington, handling the same duties with the Raiders and Lady Raiders.   Byrd tabbed him to take over their girls softball program as well as assist in football.  Lary was the Jackets defensive coordinator when Captain Shreve hired him to take over the Gators football program in 2009.
Richard Lary is survived by his wife, Becky.  Daughters, Ally, a freshman at Shreve, and Camryn.  The visitation is set for Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Calvary Baptist.  Funeral services will take place at10am Wednesday, also at Calvary.  Richard Lary was 49 years old.
The LHSAA boys baseball playoffs brackets are out. Airline gets the only home game among the 1-5A participant.  They won’t have to do much scouting as they welcome cross town rival, ByrdTuesday at 7pm.  Captain Shreve travels to Destrehan today (Monday) for a 4pm clash.  Haughton will take on Live Oak Tuesday and Ruston pays a visit to Jesuit.
In class 4A, Benton’s fourth-seeded Tigers welcome Rayne Tuesday afternoon.  North DeSoto and Loyola, the 15 and 16 seeds respectively, get home games. Eunice comes to Stonewall to face the Griffins and Beau Chene comes to Loyola, both games on Tuesday.
North DeSoto’s game starts at 6, Loyola’s at 5. Minden and Northwood complete the set from the district, with each team hitting the road.
