What you missed over the weekend in local sports.

The LSUS Pilots are Red River Athletic Conference Champs once again! Winning their fourth title in the last five seasons, and their first under coach Al Cantwell. LSUS defeated in-state rival LSU-Alexandria 5-3 at Pilot Field. LSUS outfielder James Sloan, who once played for LSUA, had three hits for the Pilots. Grady Caldwell homered in the sixth inning to extend the Pilots’ lead to two. Pitcher Dustin Doucette, went 4 1/3, allowing two runs, gets the win, extends his record to 7-0. The Pilots earn a bid to the NAIA tournament, and won’t find out who they’ll play until Friday.

 

The North DeSoto Lady Griffins, led by Lori McFerren, are your 4A State Softball Champs! The Lady Griffs defeated West Ouachita 1-zip! Haley Compton doubled to score Stephanie Easter for the lone run of the game. E.C. Delafield got the win, blanking West Ouachita!

 

Byrd baseball is off to the state semifinals after sweeping Central in the best-of-three game series at The Hive, winning Saturday 13-6. After a come from behind 8-7 victory on Friday night, Chance Cole belts a grand slam to help the Jackets’ advance. Byrd will face Brother Martin on Friday.

 

Benton sweeps Lakeshore, after winning 3-0 on Saturday. Tigers’ pitcher Aaron Shepard allowed three hits and struck out three, to send Benton back to the semifinals. They’ll host No. 5 seed Teurlings Catholic beginning Friday.
